Biography

He was born in 1981 and at the age of 4 he was already racing with his own small motorbike made by his father. He was very young when he gained excellent results in 50 cc and 80 cc Hungarian National Championships and won almost every mini motor racing championship.

In 1995 he reached 2nd place in 125cc Hungarian National Championship and in 1996 he obtained very good positions not only in national but international championships too.

Later he achieved 1st place on the podium in 125cc Hungarian National Championship then in 1997 his life turned a great corner when he was 4th at the European Championship held on Hungaroring.

In 1999 as the winner of both National and Alps Adriatic Championships he could stand on the highest place of the podium.
In 2000 during the European Championship he was sponsored by the German IVETRA team where, besides several podium places, he finished the season on the 5th place at the end of the year.

In 2001, owing to his investor and sponsors, he had the opportunity to race as the member of the Italian Racing Service Team in 125cc Motor GP World Championship.
The Racing Service Team could not complain  about him since he obtained  34 world champion points on six occasions altogether. Just on two occasions, in the Holland and Brasilian GP, he could not finish the race because of technical reasons.

After a long time it was Gabor Talmacsi who participated in the Moto GP World Championship again in 2001 as a Hungarian racer.
In 2002 he continued the World Championship with the Italian Italjet Racing Team but in the middle of the season, on account of unfavourable technical conditions, one of the Hungarian talents of Moto GP was compelled to change team. He transfered to the German PEV ADAC Sachsen Honda team. In the colours of the German team already on his first race he gained World Champion points and in Brasil GP he achieved the best result of his life till then, he finished the race on 4th place. He finished the 2002 season on the 22nd place with 20 World Champion points.

At the end of the season with his talent and results he attracted the attention of several „big teams”. He chose Exalt Cycle Aprilia Racing, the World Champion team of that time. In 2003 he was racing with a 125cc Aprilia. The start was darkened by minor technical problems but after they had been solved the results came one after the other. Occasionally the Eurosport broadcastings resounded with Talmacsi’s magnificent performances, and he finished the World Championship on the 14th place with 70 points in total. Gabor was the only pilot who finished every race, hereby putting the most racing kilometers into his machine.

In 2004 as pilot Nr. 1 he signed his contract with the Semprucci Malaguti Racing factory team. That year was the year of big developments and experiences at Malaguti. At the end they admitted they would not have finished the season with such good results if Gabor Talmacsi had not been their pilot. Talma finished the season on he 17th place with 43 points in total. The best result of the season he achieved in Portugal, by taking Malaguti to the 7th place.

With the decision relating to the continuation in 2005 the rider and his manager awaited till the last moment. Gabor Talmacsi received several very favourable offers from Derbi, Gilera and Honda but that of RedBull KTM was the best of all. They entered a separate team for the race to be able to dispatch him in black and orange colours as their official factory pilot.

The pilot’s 2005 season has been the most successful so far. Hungarian motoring has been enriched with 5 podium places out of which 3 are heat victories and at final ranking the Hungarian rider finished with unprecedented result since, with 198 points, he confidently obtained bronze medal in the World Championship.

The 2006 continuation has also been decided after the last race and now it is sure that Gabor Talmacsi will be the Nr.1 rider of Humangest Honda factory team in 125cc next year. As we have got used to it, he gets the maximum out of himself and his motorbike, sometimes even more, at all races. In China he fell behind and what he could not manage to do there, he did in Brno. He got his best result of the present season, and his most memorable one too. He could get on the podium after the Checz Grand Prix in front of more than 20 thousand Hungarian fans. Altogether, he could collect points at all races but one, and though his total ranking is behind that one of 2005 season, as the most successful Honda racer he is at 7th position.

After the Portugese race the answer is ready for the question „where he will continue his career”: in 2007 he will be the racer of Aspar Team, which he thinks to be a great thing.
As the rider of Aspar Team, he reached the top of the iceberg in 2007. With a great performance, an outstanding professionalism he wrote a new sports history. As the only Hungarian, and the only Central-Eastern European racer he achieved the World Champion title in his sport.
During the 17 races he did not make a single mistake. He always finished the races collecting points, except the race of Donington Park, where he fell out because of a technical problem.

In 2007 he won 3 times: in Jerez, on Sachsenringen, in Sepang. He was the 2nd six times: in Losail, in Barcelona, in Misano, in Estoril, in Motegi and finally in Valencia. In Assen he could step on the podium as the 3rd. Besides these, he had four 4th places, one 5th and one 8th positions. Altogether he collected 282 points. During the whole season he did his maximum, he fought for being the first. On November 4th, 2007 Gabor Talmacsi (HUN) became World Champion!

The 2008-season was very difficult. First, there were a number of technical problems, which caused Gabor not being able to finish the races at the beginning, then he made a mistake and fell, finally he got such an injury at the Indianapolis race – his scaphoid bone got broken, which needed an operation too – which accompanied him till the end of the season. However, after a lot of bad things he still could finish on 3rd place in overall.

In 2009, Talmacsi switched to 250cc. He started the season for Balatonring Team, where he achieved 10th place in Qatar, 4th in Motegi, and a 7th place in Jerez.
From June 12th, 2009, Talmacsi Gabor became the MotoGP rider for Scot Racing Team!

At the end of the season, Gabor decided to take part in the brand new Moto2 category, signing for Fimmco SpeedUp team.
The 2010 season proved to be competitive and challenging, but Gabor still managed to finish in an outstanding 6th place in the overall classifications.
In November of 2010, Talmacsi signed for Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas, but later, the main sponsor backed out, meaning Gabor was left without a team.
2011 was a year for training and preparation. It was announced that Gabor will be switching to rallying for 2012. He took part in the Szilveszter Rally, Orfu Rally Sprint, Tatabanya RTE, Bukfurdo Rally and Mecsek Rally.

At the end of May, Gabor received an offer from Czech nationality ProRace Motorcycle Team, to take part in the remainder of the 2012 Superbike Championship. Without any preparation, Gabor achieved points in every race, thus finishing in 13th place in the overall classifications.

In 2013 Gabor continued the work with Prorace entering the Supersport World Championship as the single rider of the Czech-based team. However, this season was a hugely misfortunate one for Gabor. At the season-opener in Australia he suffered injury on his jawbone and skull after an unfortunate crash. But the real nightmare only has come after that! In Portugal the engine has exploded and one of its flying parts has bed itself in his leg totally breaking his tibia. That was the end of the season for him, and since then he had 5 operations on his injured leg. The 5th was hopefully the last one as now he is continuing his rehabilitation programme and the hard work to be able to return onto the race track as soon as possible. In the meantime, he also works together with some young talents and does everything he can to make them grow as a rider.
